Viper 1100 Timber Grab | Hydraulic Excavator Timber Grab | Built in Fermanagh

For 2 to 6 ton excavators • Hardox steel throughout • Custom headstock to your machine • Hydraulic pipes included • Available all year round

✅ No seasonal restriction. The Viper 1100 earns all year round. When hedge cutting season closes in February, most excavator attachments go in the shed. Not the Viper. Stack felled timber, clear storm damage, handle ash dieback, move logs to the sawmill. Twelve months of the year, no government restriction. Custom headstock built to your machine. Hydraulic pipes included as standard. Call 07734 357045 to order.

The McElhill Engineering Ltd Viper 1100 Timber Grab is a heavy-duty hydraulic excavator attachment built for contractors and farmers running 2 to 6 ton mini and midi excavators across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England. Fabricated from Hardox steel throughout in our Fermanagh workshop, it grips, lifts and moves logs, felled timber, brushwood and storm debris with controlled precision on every pass. Every Viper 1100 is built to order with a custom headstock matched exactly to your excavator, and hydraulic pipes are included as standard. Nothing extra to source, nothing to guess.

For forestry and agricultural contractors across Ireland and Northern Ireland, the Viper 1100 is the attachment that keeps your mini or midi excavator earning outside the hedge cutting season. Clear sites after tree shearing, stack timber at the sawmill, shift brushwood from agricultural land, or work through the backlog of storm damage that has been building up across the country. One attachment, year-round work, built to last.

Running a mini or midi excavator means your season window is tight and your machine needs to earn every month it can.

The hedge cutting season closes at the end of February and does not reopen until September. Six months where a cutting attachment sits idle. A Viper 1100 changes that. Stack the timber your tree shear cut, clear the ash dieback your contractor has been asked to remove, deal with the storm damage that appeared last winter. The Viper keeps your excavator on the job all twelve months of the year. Built to your machine. Pipes included. 4 to 6 weeks build time.

🌪 Storm Damage & Ash Dieback. A Growing Demand Across Ireland & Northern Ireland.

Ireland and Northern Ireland have experienced a significant increase in severe storm events in recent years. Storms Babet, Ciarán, Debi, Eowyn and others have left thousands of fallen trees blocking roads, damaging farmland boundaries, and creating serious clearance backlogs across every county. Councils, estates, farmers and forestry contractors all need the same thing: a reliable way to grip and move heavy fallen timber quickly and safely from the excavator cab.

At the same time, ash dieback disease continues to spread rapidly across Ireland and Northern Ireland. Infected ash trees become structurally unpredictable and must be felled and removed. This work is happening on roadsides, farm boundaries and within forestry plantations across every county. It requires exactly the kind of controlled timber handling that the Viper 1100 is built for.

The Viper 1100 allows one operator in one machine to grip, lift and place fallen trees and heavy debris safely and efficiently, without a chainsaw crew on the ground and without the safety risks of manual timber handling. For contractors taking on storm damage and ash dieback contracts in Northern Ireland and Ireland, it is one of the most productive attachments available.

Common Questions About the Viper 1100
What size excavator does the Viper 1100 fit?

The Viper 1100 is built for excavators from 2 to 6 ton, including mini and midi excavators which are the most common machine size used by smaller forestry and agricultural contractors across Northern Ireland and Ireland. Call Gary on 07734 357045 with your machine make and model and he will confirm the right size immediately.

Do I need to supply my own hydraulic pipes?

No. Hydraulic pipes are included as standard with every Viper 1100. When you place your order, send us your machine measurements and we fabricate the pipes to fit. Nothing extra to source, nothing to chase from a supplier. It arrives ready to connect.

Is the Viper 1100 suitable for storm damage clearance?

Yes, and this is one of its most important uses. Following storms Babet, Ciarán, Debi, Eowyn and others across Ireland and Northern Ireland, there is a significant backlog of storm damage clearance work. The Viper 1100 allows one operator in one excavator to grip and move heavy fallen trees and debris quickly and safely from inside the cab, without a chainsaw crew on the ground, and without the risks of manual timber handling around unstable fallen trees.

Can the Viper 1100 be used for ash dieback removal?

Yes. Ash dieback is causing widespread tree loss across Ireland and Northern Ireland and the felling and removal of infected ash trees is now a major and growing workstream for forestry and agricultural contractors. The Viper 1100 handles ash timber safely, gripping and controlling felled material from the excavator cab, which is especially important when working with structurally unpredictable ash dieback trees.

Can I use a timber grab all year round in Ireland?

Yes. Unlike hedge cutting attachments such as saw heads, flail heads and tree shears, timber grabs carry no government seasonal restriction. The Viper 1100 can be used every day of the year. This makes it one of the best-value attachments for any contractor with a mini or midi excavator, because it keeps the machine earning during the six-month period when cutting attachments cannot be used.

Will the Viper 1100 fit my JCB / Kubota / Doosan / other make?

Yes. Every Viper 1100 headstock is custom fabricated to your excavator's specification. It does not matter what make or model you are running: JCB, Kubota, Caterpillar, Volvo, Komatsu, Doosan, Takeuchi, Hitachi or any other brand in the 2 to 6 ton range. Send us your measurements when you enquire and we build the headstock to match. Call 07734 357045 to discuss your machine.
