About Us
Built in our workshop.
Proven in your field.
A full-service engineering workshop in Fermanagh. General fabrication, agricultural repairs, metalwork and the excavator attachments that contractors across Ireland and the UK rely on every season.
From a Fermanagh workshop to the fields of Ireland and beyond.
McElhill Engineering Ltd was founded by Gary McElhill in 1993. From the start, the workshop in Fermanagh took on the full range of engineering work that the local farming and contracting community needed. General fabrication, agricultural machinery repairs, steelwork and metalwork. If it needed welding, cutting or rebuilding, it came through the door.
It was that hands-on experience with working machinery that pointed the business towards excavator attachments. Forestry and agricultural contractors across Ireland were struggling with equipment that was not up to the job. Heavy hedgerows, wet ground, tight seasonal windows and attachments that could not handle any of it reliably. Gary started designing and building his own.
"We built our first attachments because contractors needed something that would last in Irish conditions. Thirty years on, the workshop is still here and the approach has not changed."
Gary McElhill, Founder — McElhill Engineering Ltd
The first machines went out to local contractors and they worked. Word spread the way it does in this industry, not through advertising, but through one contractor telling another. The phone kept ringing. The workshop kept building. Today McElhill Engineering still carries out the full range of engineering and fabrication work the business was built on, alongside a product range of excavator attachments that contractors across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England rely on every season.
A company built to last. A range built to grow.
McElhill Engineering has been here for over 30 years because we have always stayed focused on the people actually doing the work. Contractors do not need promises. They need attachments that show up ready to perform, hold up through a full season and come with proper support when something needs attention.
That will not change. What will change is the range. The market contractors operate in keeps moving. New machinery, new contracts, new demands on what an excavator attachment needs to do. We intend to keep pace with that, building new products to meet the jobs our customers are winning, the same way we built the first ones. Properly, in Fermanagh, without cutting corners.
We plan to be here for the next 30 years. The contractors who have trusted us since the 1990s are still with us. The ones who come to us now will still be with us then. That is not ambition. That is how we have always worked.

Watch how we build our machines in Fermanagh.
Every attachment is cut, welded and assembled in our own workshop. This is what 30 years of building excavator attachments looks like.
The machines speak for themselves.
So do the people running them.
"Their attachments are built better than anything else we have run. No shortcuts, no cheap parts. You know you are getting proper engineering every time."
Forestry Contractor, Northern Ireland
"If they say it will do the job, it will. Simple as that. Great support, great communication, and machines that last."
Agricultural Contractor, Republic of Ireland
"We have had their saw head and grab on the go for years with zero issues. That kind of reliability is priceless on busy jobs."
Plant Hire Contractor, Ireland
We know what is at stake when you are cutting.
The season is short
From 1 September to 28 February. Wet fields, frost and ground conditions eat into that window fast. Every day lost to a failed attachment is money you will not bill back.
Our attachments are built to run the full season without letting you down.
Downtime costs contracts
A failed attachment mid-contract means delays, unhappy clients and emergency costs. Waiting on parts mid-season while the clock runs down is not an option.
We service and repair in our Fermanagh workshop. Same team that built it.
Ground crew safety
Running a chainsaw operator alongside a moving excavator carries serious risk. The right attachment removes that person from the danger zone entirely.
Our Predator Tree Shear and Reaper Saw Head eliminate ground crew exposure.
What sets McElhill Engineering Ltd apart.
Built by hand in our own workshop
Every attachment is fabricated on site in Fermanagh. The same team builds, fits and tests every machine before it leaves us.
Custom headstock on every order
We build the headstock to your exact pin size, pin centres and hydraulic specification. Your machine fits your excavator properly, first time.
We re-tooth worn Reaper blades
We manufacture our own Reaper blades and re-cut them when the teeth wear down. Contractors save around 50% compared to buying new. No other manufacturer offers this.
Machines that run for decades
We have attachments in the field that were built over 20 years ago and are still in regular use. Maintained correctly, a McElhill machine is a long-term investment.
Workshop servicing on your doorstep
When you need a service, repair or blade re-tip, it is done in Fermanagh by the people who built your machine. Not a third-party repair centre.
Customers from the 1990s still order from us
Contractors who bought their first McElhill attachment 30 years ago are still customers today. That kind of loyalty is earned through doing the job right, every time.
A record built one machine at a time.
30 years in Fermanagh
Manufacturing excavator attachments from the same workshop since 1993. The business has grown because the machines work and the service backs them up.
Hardox 450 steel throughout
Our Reaper blades are made from Hardox 450 wear-resistant steel. We specify the right material for the job, not the cheapest option available.
Blade re-tooth service
Contractors save approximately 50% on blade costs through our re-tooth service. We weld fresh teeth onto rough-cut blades and re-machine fine-cut blades in-house.
Serving NI, ROI, England and beyond
We supply contractors across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England. Delivery further afield can be arranged. ROI customers with a VAT number pay zero VAT.
Full hydraulic compatibility
Every machine is specced to your excavator's hydraulic output. We work with 4 to 20 tonne machines across all major excavator brands.
Made to order, every time
We do not hold large stock. Every attachment is built for the contractor who ordered it. That is how we control quality from the first weld to the final fitting.
Made to order in Fermanagh. Short season, hard work, long days. Built for all of it.
