✅ In stock and ready to go. No waiting, no build time. The Claw is a handheld manual log grab built from Hardox steel in our Fermanagh workshop. No excavator needed, no hydraulics, no machine. Just a solid, controlled grip on your logs. Perfect for farmers doing their own firewood, sawmill work and farm timber handling. Call 07734 357045 to order today.

The McElhill Engineering Ltd Claw is a handheld manual log grab built from Hardox steel in our workshop in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. There are no hydraulics, no cables, no power source and no machine required. You pick it up, you grip the log, you move it. That is all there is to it. At 10kg and with a 600mm open jaw, it gives you a controlled mechanical grip on logs that takes the strain off your back and gets the job done faster than any other method of moving timber by hand.

The Claw is built for farmers who cut and handle their own firewood, sawmill operators who need a reliable daily tool for moving logs, and anyone on a farm who regularly needs to shift timber without an excavator on hand. It is compact enough to throw in the back of a trailer, tough enough to take the kind of daily use that farm tools get, and built from the same Hardox steel we use in our excavator grabs. Not mild steel. Not a cheap import. Hardox, built in Fermanagh.

Moving logs by hand without the right tool is slow, hard on your back, and costs you time you do not have.

Every farmer who cuts their own firewood knows the job. The chainsaw does the cutting but then the logs need moving, stacking and handling, one at a time, by hand. Rolling awkward shapes, bending down, losing grip. It adds up. The Claw gives you a mechanical grip that takes the effort out of handling individual logs. Pick up, move, place. Your back will thank you and the job gets done in half the time. In stock, £70 excl. VAT, ready to dispatch today.

What The Claw Is Used For

A simple tool that makes a real difference anywhere logs need to be moved by hand.

Firewood Handling The main use. Farmers cutting and stacking their own firewood. Grip the log, move it, stack it. Faster and easier on your back than any other method.
Sawmill Log Handling Move and position logs at the sawmill or bandsaw. Controlled grip, no slipping, no rolling. A daily tool that earns its keep.
Farm Timber Work General farm timber handling. Fence posts, cut timber, round wood. Anywhere on the farm where logs need moving without a machine.
Log Pile Management Sort, stack and move logs at the woodpile. Pick up individual pieces cleanly without rolling, fumbling or losing grip on awkward shapes.
Timber Yard Use Handle cut timber at the yard. Compact and portable, it goes anywhere you need it and handles the daily wear of a working yard.
Small Site Clearance Move small felled timber and brash by hand on tighter sites where a machine cannot get in. Useful tool for the odd job that needs doing by hand.

Common Questions About The Claw
Does The Claw need an excavator or any hydraulics?

No. The Claw is a completely manual handheld tool. No excavator, no hydraulics, no power source of any kind. You pick it up and use it. That is the whole point. It goes anywhere on the farm or yard without needing a machine nearby.

What size logs can The Claw handle?

The Claw has a jaw opening of 600mm which covers the majority of firewood, farm timber and general log sizes that you would be handling by hand. For larger diameter logs, The Fang gives a wider, more stable dual-arm grip.

Is The Claw in stock?

Yes. The Claw is kept in stock at our Fermanagh workshop and is available for immediate dispatch. No build time, no waiting. Call 07734 357045 to order.

What is The Claw made from?

The Claw is built from Hardox steel throughout. This is the same abrasion-resistant high-strength steel we use in our saw head blades. It is significantly harder and more wear-resistant than standard mild steel, which means it holds up to the daily wear of farm and firewood use without bending, deforming or losing its grip.

What is the difference between The Claw and The Fang?

The Claw is a single four-tine handheld grab. Compact, direct and easy to use for everyday firewood and farm timber handling. The Fang is the dual-arm version with a wider grip that wraps around the full log, giving more stability when handling larger diameter timber. If you are regularly moving big logs, The Fang is the better tool. If you mainly handle standard firewood sizes, The Claw does the job.
