The Fang | Quad-Arm Handheld Log Grab | Built in Fermanagh
Manual handheld tool • No hydraulics required • Hardox steel throughout • In stock • £150 excl. VAT
The McElhill Engineering Ltd Fang is a quad-arm handheld log grab built from Hardox steel in our workshop in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. There are no hydraulics, no cables, no power source and no machine required. You pick it up, you wrap it round the log, you move it. At 20kg with four arms, two on each side, biting in around the full log, it gives a wider, more stable hold than a two-point tool, which matters once you're past standard firewood sizes and into bigger, heavier timber.
The Fang is built for the same jobs as The Claw, but for the logs The Claw was never meant for. Bigger diameter timber, awkward shapes, heavier lifts. It's the tool contractors and farmers reach for when a double tine grab starts to slip or can't get a proper bite. Same Hardox steel we use across our excavator grabs. Not mild steel, not an import. Built in Fermanagh.
The heavier and more awkward the log, the more likely it is to shift, roll or slip out of a weak grip, and that's when hands and backs get hurt. A double tine grab that's fine for standard firewood starts to struggle once the diameter goes up. The Fang's quad-arm design wraps fully around the log instead of just biting from two points, so it holds steady on the bigger, harder pieces that cause most of the trouble. One man, no waiting on the machine, no rolling logs by hand.
Built for the bigger, heavier logs that a standard hand grab struggles with.
- Hardox steel throughout: the same abrasion-resistant steel used in our excavator timber grabs. Built to take daily wear on bigger, heavier logs
- No hydraulics, no machine, no power source required: completely manual and handheld. Pick it up and use it anywhere
- Quad-arm design: four arms, two on each side, wrap fully around the log for a wider, more stable grip than a double tine grab

- In stock: no build time. Available for immediate dispatch from our Fermanagh workshop
- 650mm tall, 180mm wide closed, 600mm wide open, 340mm deep: bigger than The Claw where it needs to be, without being unwieldy on site
- Built in Fermanagh: same workshop, same quality, same standards as our excavator attachments

The Viper range covers every timber handling job, from large excavator-mounted hydraulic grabs to handheld manual tools for the woodpile and sawmill.
No. The Fang is a completely manual handheld tool. No excavator, no hydraulics, no power source of any kind. You pick it up and use it. It goes anywhere on the farm, forestry site or yard without needing a machine nearby.
The Fang's quad-arm design gives a wider grip than The Claw, so it's suited to larger diameter logs and heavier timber. If you mainly handle standard firewood sizes, The Claw does the job. If you're regularly moving bigger logs, The Fang is the better tool.
Yes. The Fang is kept in stock at our Fermanagh workshop and is available for immediate dispatch. No build time, no waiting. Call 07734 357045 to order.
The Fang is built from Hardox steel throughout. This is the same abrasion-resistant high-strength steel we use in our saw head blades. It holds up to daily wear on bigger, heavier logs without bending, deforming or losing its grip.
The Fang is the quad-arm version, wrapping fully around the log to give a wider, more stable grip on larger diameter timber. The Claw is a double tine handheld grab with a double point mechanical bite, compact and direct, better suited to standard firewood sizes. If you're regularly moving big logs, The Fang is the better tool.
