The Reaper Saw Head 900 is a heavy-duty precision circular saw head built for larger excavators tackling serious hedge management and forestry work. Fitted as standard with a 900mm Fine Cut Hardox 450 blade, it cuts branches and stems up to 450mm diameter with power and precision in a single pass. A 900mm Rough Cut blade is available as an alternative for heavier commercial work. Built for contractors running 10 to 14 tonne excavators who need to get through heavy vegetation quickly, cleanly and safely.

Hand-built to order at our workshop in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, and used by contractors across Northern Ireland, ROI and England.

Running a 10 to 14 tonne machine means you are taking on the bigger contracts.

When that machine stops, the cost of standing idle hits hard. Add a short season, Irish weather cutting into your working days, and the ongoing expense of replacing worn blades. The Reaper 900 is built for contractors who need a powerful, reliable excavator attachment that earns its keep through the season — and gets sorted fast in our own workshop when it needs attention.

The Reaper Blade Re-Tipping Service — Available from McElhill Engineering Every Reaper Saw Head 900 comes with one 900mm Fine Cut Hardox 450 blade included as standard. When the teeth wear down from use, bring the blade back to our Fermanagh workshop rather than replacing it outright. For rough cut blades we weld new teeth back on. For fine cut blades we recut the teeth back into the blade — restoring it to full working condition. Every blade is made from Hardox 450 steel manufactured in our own workshop, which is what gives us the knowledge to restore them properly. The result is a longer working life for your blade and real money saved over the life of the machine. Call 07734 357045 to discuss re-tipping your existing blade.
"She cuts through everything — never missed a beat all season."

The Blade That Comes With Your Reaper Saw Head 900

Every Reaper Saw Head 900 is fitted as standard with a 900mm Fine Cut Hardox 450 blade. We make the blade ourselves in our Fermanagh workshop from Hardox 450 steel, an abrasion resistant grade used where ordinary mild steel wears out. It cuts branches and stems up to 450mm diameter in a single pass.

Fine Cut or Rough Cut? Pick the Blade for the Job

900mm Fine Cut (fitted as standard)

For commercial hedge management, boundaries, verges and general scrub clearance, where you want a cleaner finish left behind.

See the 900mm Fine Cut Blade

900mm Rough Cut (available as an alternative)

A heavier tooth profile for thick scrub, broken timber and mixed forestry material, where a rougher finish is fine.

Not sure which blade suits the trees and hedges you cut? Tell us what you are cutting and the finish you want to leave, and we will tell you which blade to fit before you order. Call 07734 357045 or email us. You can also see all our Reaper saw head blades.

We Re-Cut and Re-Tip Blades

When the teeth wear down, you do not need a new blade. Bring it back to our Fermanagh workshop and we will restore it. Rough cut blades get new teeth welded on, and fine cut blades have the teeth recut back into the blade. Because we make the blades ourselves, we know how to restore them properly. That means a longer working life for your blade and money saved over the life of the machine.

Call us first and send photos before you post anything. Not every blade can be re-cut, and we will give you an honest opinion before you send it in. Email photos of the worn blade to mcelhillengineeringltd@hotmail.com or call 07734 357045. The full steps are on the 900mm Fine Cut and 900mm Rough Cut blade pages.

Running two blades? Rotate them. Send one in for re-cutting while the other stays on the machine, so you lose no days in the field.

Problems Contractors Deal With, and How the Reaper 900 Answers Them

A worn blade means buying a new one

Our blades are Hardox 450, made in our own workshop, and they can be re-cut or re-tipped instead of replaced. You pay to restore the blade, not to buy a whole new one.

A short season and wet ground

Hedge cutting runs from 1 September to 28 February, and wet fields cut into the days you can get an excavator on the ground. Every working day counts, so the Reaper 900 is built with heavy duty construction for commercial hedge management and forestry contracts.

A breakdown in the middle of the season

We build it and we fix it. All servicing and repairs are done in our own Fermanagh workshop by the people who built the machine, to keep your downtime as short as possible. Hydraulic hoses, Ram refurbishment and welding are done there too. See our workshop services.

An attachment that does not fit properly

A custom headstock is included as standard, built to your exact excavator pin size, for 10 to 14 tonne excavators. If you are not sure it suits your machine, call us with your excavator make and model and we will confirm before you order.

Built for Cutting in Ireland

In Ireland, hedges are cut in autumn and winter, when the weather is at its worst and the working window is short. Wet fields, mud and long days are part of every contract. That is why the Reaper 900 is built the way it is: a Hardox 450 blade made in our own workshop, heavy duty construction for commercial hedge management and forestry work, and a custom headstock matched to your excavator. When it needs attention, it comes back to the workshop in Fermanagh where it was built.

Frequently Asked Questions
What excavator size does the Reaper Saw Head 900 fit?
The Reaper 900 is built for 10 to 14 tonne excavators with a hydraulic flow of 70 to 120 lpm at 3000 psi. If you are unsure whether your machine is compatible, call us on 07734 357045 and we will confirm before you order.
What blade comes with the Reaper Saw Head 900?
Every Reaper Saw Head 900 comes with a 900mm Fine Cut Hardox 450 blade fitted as standard. A 900mm Rough Cut blade is available as an alternative for heavier commercial work — call to discuss.
Can you re-tip the blades when they wear down?
Yes — and this is something our competitors cannot offer. We manufacture our own blades from Hardox 450 steel in our Fermanagh workshop, which means we have the knowledge and tooling to restore them properly. Rough cut blades get new teeth welded on. Fine cut blades get the teeth recut back into the blade. Bring the worn blade to us rather than buying a new one.
How long is the lead time?
Every Reaper 900 is built to order at our Fermanagh workshop. Lead time is typically 4 to 6 weeks but extends as the season approaches. Order early to secure your build slot and make sure your machine is ready for 1 September.
Do you supply hydraulic pipes?
Hydraulic pipes are not supplied as standard. We advise on what your machine requires and can supply piping at additional cost if needed. Call 07734 357045 to discuss before ordering.
