900mm Rough Cut Blade — Hardox 450 Saw Head Blade | Built in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland

Manufacturing excavator attachments since 1993 — over 30 years of experience building machines and blades for forestry and agricultural contractors across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England.

The 900mm Rough Cut Blade is a heavy-duty circular saw head blade manufactured from Hardox 450 steel in our own Fermanagh workshop. Built for contractors running the Reaper 900 saw head and other compatible 10–14 ton class saw heads on the heaviest work — thick scrub, broken timber, mixed forestry material and unpredictable loads where a fine cut blade would be pushed past its limits.

Need a replacement blade for an existing saw head? The 900mm Rough Cut is built to fit the Reaper 900, but it will also work on saw heads from other manufacturers in the 10–14 ton class — provided the mounting bolt pattern and centre hole match. Send us the measurements or a quick photo of your old blade and we will check the fit before you order. Supplied across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England.

Rough cut work is hard on a blade, thick scrub, broken timber and unpredictable loads wear the teeth down quicker than fine cutting. That's why every Rough Cut blade is built to be re-tipped in our Fermanagh workshop, not thrown away. A Hardox 450 rough cut blade handles that work better than most, and when the teeth do eventually give way, we weld new teeth back on in our own Fermanagh workshop rather than asking you to buy a new one. For contractors working the heaviest jobs day in, day out, that is a meaningful saving over a full season of rough clearance.

Saw Head Compatibility

The 900mm Rough Cut blade fits the McElhill Reaper 900 saw head. It is also compatible with saw heads from other manufacturers in the 10–14 ton class where the mounting bolt pattern, centre bore and overall blade dimensions match. If you are running a saw head from another maker, call 07734 357045 with your saw head make, model and mounting measurements and we will confirm whether this blade fits before you order.

Re-tipping — Extending the Life of Your Blade

When the teeth wear down on a rough cut blade, don't bin it. Send it back to us and we will re-tip it in the workshop — new teeth welded on, dressed, balanced and ready to run again. It is cheaper than a new blade and it keeps good Hardox 450 steel earning its keep in the hedge, not sitting in a scrap pile.

Important — do not send a blade in without speaking to us first.

Not every blade can be re-tipped. If it is too far gone, cracked, or the body is damaged, a re-tip will not be safe or economical. Send two or three clear photos — both sides if you can — and Gary will give you his honest opinion over the phone. He can usually tell from photos, but he will not commit fully until the blade is physically in front of him. Photos don't always show the full picture — some wear or damage only shows up when the blade is turned in the hand under proper light.

What it costs

Re-tip pricing depends on the condition of the blade and how much work is needed. Once the blade is in our workshop and has been looked over, you will get a price over the phone before any work starts. No paperwork to chase, just a straight call.

Keep a spare running — no downtime in a short season

Cutting season is short — 1 September to 28 February — and Irish weather does not leave much room for delays. Contractors running more than one of our blades rotate: send one in for a re-tip while the other stays on the machine. No lost days in the field, no missed jobs, no awkward phone calls to the farmer waiting on his boundary. The blade you are not using is the one earning you money next week.

How to arrange a re-tip

  1. Call us on 07734 357045 or email mcelhillengineeringltd@hotmail.com with photos of the worn blade.
  2. You will get an honest opinion over the phone on whether it is worth sending in.
  3. Once agreed, arrange a courier to deliver the blade to our workshop in Fermanagh. Delivery to us is the customer's responsibility and at the customer's cost.
  4. The blade is inspected in the workshop, you are called with the confirmed price, and the work starts from there.
  5. Once the work is complete and full payment and paperwork (including VAT) are settled, we will arrange a courier to return the blade — return delivery is also at the customer's cost.

Please note: blades sent in without being arranged with us first are at the customer's risk. If a blade cannot be re-tipped and is not collected, the customer is responsible for return delivery or disposal. No blades will be dispatched from our workshop until full payment and paperwork (including VAT) have been received.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this blade fit my saw head?

It fits the McElhill Reaper 900 as standard. For saw heads from other makers, compatibility depends on the mounting bolt pattern, centre bore and overall blade dimensions. Call 07734 357045 with your saw head make, model and measurements and we will confirm before you order.

Rough Cut or Fine Cut — which one do I need?

Rough Cut is built for heavy work — thick scrub, broken timber, mixed forestry material. The heavier tooth profile handles unpredictable loads better than a fine cut blade. If most of your work is general hedgerow and scrub clearance where a cleaner cut matters, the Fine Cut is the one. If you are mixing both, most contractors run a Rough Cut for the tough jobs and swap to a Fine Cut for the cleaner work. Call 07734 357045 to discuss.

Can I send my worn blade in to be re-tipped?

Yes — but always speak to us first. Send photos, get an honest opinion over the phone, then arrange a courier to bring the blade to the workshop. If a blade cannot be re-tipped and is not collected, the customer is responsible for return delivery or disposal. Call 07734 357045 to start.

Do you deliver outside Northern Ireland?

Yes — we deliver across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England. Other locations by arrangement.

What is the lead time on a new blade?

We keep a selection of blades in stock so lead times are usually short. Call Gary on 07734 357045 to check current availability.
