900mm Fine Cut Blade — Hardox 450 Saw Head Blade | Built in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland
Manufacturing excavator attachments since 1993 — over 30 years of experience building machines and blades for forestry and agricultural contractors across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England.
The 900mm Fine Cut Blade is a heavy-duty precision circular saw head blade manufactured from Hardox 450 steel in our own Fermanagh workshop. Designed as the standard fit for the McElhill Reaper 900 saw head, it is built for contractors running 10–14 ton excavators on commercial hedge management contracts, farm boundary clearance, road verge maintenance and forestry scrub clearance.
Replacing a worn fine cut blade or running a saw head from another manufacturer? The 900mm Fine Cut is the standard fit for the Reaper 900 and will work on any 10–14 ton class saw head where the mounting bolt pattern and centre hole match. Send us a photo of your old blade or your saw head measurements and we will confirm the fit before you order. Supplied across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England.
Running a 900mm blade on a 10 to 14 ton machine means you are working through heavier vegetation day after day, and a blade that has lost its bite is a machine that is working harder than it needs to. By the time a fine cut blade is down to the line, most contractors are looking at another £390 for a replacement. Bring ours back to our workshop — if the blade is a candidate — and we recut the teeth straight back into it, so the cost of staying cutting through a full season is a fraction of what a new blade would run you.

Saw Head Compatibility
The 900mm Fine Cut blade is the standard fit for the McElhill Reaper 900 saw head. It is also compatible with saw heads from other manufacturers where the mounting bolt pattern, centre bore and overall blade dimensions match. If you are running a saw head from another maker, call 07734 357045 with your saw head make, model and mounting measurements and we will confirm whether this blade fits before you order.
Recuts — Extending the Life of Your Blade
When the teeth wear down, don't bin the blade. Send it back to us and we will re-tooth it in the workshop — new teeth welded on, dressed, balanced and ready to run again. It is cheaper than a new blade and it keeps good Hardox 450 steel earning its keep in the hedge, not sitting in a scrap pile.
Important — do not send a blade in without speaking to us first.
Not every blade can be recut. If it is too far gone, cracked, or the body is damaged, a recut will not be safe or economical. Send two or three clear photos — both sides if you can — and Gary will give you his honest opinion over the phone. He can usually tell from photos, but he will not commit fully until the blade is physically in front of him. Photos don't always show the full picture — some wear or damage only shows up when the blade is turned in the hand under proper light.
What it costs
Recut pricing depends on the condition of the blade and how much work is needed. Once the blade is in our workshop and has been looked over, you will get a price over the phone before any work starts. No paperwork to chase, just a straight call.
Keep a spare running — no downtime in a short season
Cutting season is short — 1 September to 28 February — and Irish weather does not leave much room for delays. Contractors running more than one of our blades rotate: send one in for a recut while the other stays on the machine. No lost days in the field, no missed jobs, no awkward phone calls to the farmer waiting on his boundary. The blade you are not using is the one earning you money next week.
How to arrange a recut
- Call us on 07734 357045 or email mcelhillengineeringltd@hotmail.com with photos of the worn blade.
- You will get an honest opinion over the phone on whether it is worth sending in.
- Once agreed, arrange a courier to deliver the blade to our workshop in Fermanagh. Delivery to us is the customer's responsibility and at the customer's cost.
- The blade is inspected in the workshop, you are called with the confirmed price, and the work starts from there.
- Once the work is complete and full payment and paperwork (including VAT) are settled, we will arrange a courier to return the blade — return delivery is also at the customer's cost.
Please note: blades sent in without being arranged with us first are at the customer's risk. If a blade cannot be recut and is not collected, the customer is responsible for return delivery or disposal. No blades will be dispatched from our workshop until full payment and paperwork (including VAT) have been received.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this blade fit my saw head?
It fits the McElhill Reaper 900 as standard. For saw heads from other makers, compatibility depends on the mounting bolt pattern, centre bore and overall blade dimensions. Call 07734 357045 with your saw head make, model and measurements and we will confirm before you order.
Fine Cut or Rough Cut — which one do I need?
Fine Cut is the standard blade shipped with the Reaper 900 — ideal for hedge management and general scrub clearance where you want a cleaner cut. Rough Cut is the tougher option for heavy, unpredictable work and contractors who regularly encounter broken timber or thick material. If in doubt, call 07734 357045.
Can I send my worn blade in for a recut?
Yes — but always speak to us first. Send photos, get an honest opinion over the phone, then arrange a courier to bring the blade to the workshop. If a blade cannot be recut and is not collected, the customer is responsible for return delivery or disposal. Call 07734 357045 to start.
Do you deliver outside Northern Ireland?
Yes — we deliver across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England. Other locations by arrangement.
What is the lead time on a new blade?
We keep a selection of blades in stock so lead times are usually short. Call Gary on 07734 357045 to check current availability.
